Make In India Week, Mumbai

Symbiosis Skills Development Universities coming up at Indore & Pune gets showcased at the ‘Make in India Week’ in Mumbai between 13th and 18th February 2016.

With an objective of crystallizing the ‘Make in India’ vision, Symbiosis is setting up a Skill Development University called Symbiosis Skills & Open University at Pune and a similar one at Indore called the Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences.

This unique Skills Development University model was showcased at the Make in India Week event being held in Mumbai at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex. Both the Govt. of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh showcased the Universities as part of the initiative taken to attract investors to the State.

The Universities will contribute to nation building by creating a large pool of skilled workforce for the Industry and thereby also contributing to the vision of making India a self-sufficient Global Powerhouse.

Both Universities are proposed to commence operations in June 2016. The work for the same is already underway at Pune and Indore.
Symbiosis Skills & Open University (SSOU) at Pune & Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences (SUAS) at Indore are India’s first residential Skills Development Universities being set up.
Symbiosis Skills Development Universities are a brain child of Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Vice President, Symbiosis Foundation and Principal Director, and Symbiosis Open Education Society. An idea which was conceived as a result of her long years of research in the field of vocational education & skill development. The Universities will impart undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral degree programs as well as short term courses with a focus on creating skilled youth as per industry needs. The Universities have established close partnerships with industry so as to understand their skill needs and design curriculum accordingly.
The Universities will focus on offering degrees in high growth sectors such as Automobile, Construction, Manufacturing, Retail, Banking & Finance and IT sectors in Phase I and Pharmaceutical, Textiles, Health Care & Bio Medical Sciences in Phase II.
About Symbiosis Open Education Society (SOES)
Symbiosis Open Education Society (SOES) is a society registered under the Societies Registration Act on 9th May, 2008 and is also registered as a public trust under Bombay Public Trust Act on 10th Oct, 2008. Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning is a constituent of Symbiosis Open Education Society. The objective of SOES is to promote, advance and disseminate knowledge through the open and distance learning system, in order to provide education, skill development and life long learning opportunities to all segments of the population from India and other countries, thereby enabling, development and growth of individuals, society and community at large. Apart from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL), Symbiosis Community College (SCC) and Symbiosis Vocational Junior College (SVJC) have also been established by SOES.

Under the leadership of President and Founder, Symbiosis Padma Bhushan Dr. S. B Mujumdar & Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Principal Director, Symbiosis Open Education Society, Symbiosis is establishing India’s 1st Skill Development Universities at Pune and Indore respectively.
